Iron Man 2 Review

Everyone expects greatness from Iron Man 2. (or am I the only one? Haha)

The movie wastes no time in introducing Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke) just seconds after that marvel introduction. He becomes the movie's main villain, Whiplash, "managing to be menacing despite looking a bit like Captain Jack Sparrow's older, beefier brother, complete with parakeet." (quoted from one critic)

Stark, on the other hand, is still vilified by the United States government, and Senator Stern (Gary Shandling) in particular, demands that he hand his armor technology over to the United States government for military application. Stark refuses, publicly shaming rival Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) in demonstrating how rival states and groups are at least 5 years away from successfully recreating the technology.

Then, just as you're itching for something to explode, director John Favreau delivers the film's best action sequence as Whiplash walks into the middle of a Monaco Grand Prix race and starts slicing up cars.

So good is this bit that the film's grand finale (a veritable Royal Rumble of Iron Man-style suits) doesn't seem nearly as grand.

"It falls short of its predecessor and is therefore a disappointment but what it lacks in grit and darkness it makes up for in fun." - Alex Zane, Sun Online
